The Chilean cycling horror-thriller Downhill has landed UK distribution courtesy of Solo Media and Matchbox Films. The two companies plan to release the film on DVD on 10th October and then on digital on 24th October.
Synopsis:
After his best friend dies in a racing accident, biking star Joe agrees to go back on the wheels for an exhibition in Chile. On a test run with his girlfriend Stephanie, they stumble upon a badly injured man dying from a mysterious virus. That’s the start of a very bad day for them as they become the target of relentless killers ready to do anything to keep their secret to go out of the mountains! Mixing GoPro footage and stunning cinematography of the mesmerising Chilean wilderness, DOWNHILL slowly transforms from a sports movie into a body horror tale just as the characters are transformed by something hidden inside them just waiting to burst out…
We found a lot to love in Downhill, particularly towards its monstrous finale. It’s definitely something to watch if you enjoy Lovecraftian terror and icky body-horror. It doesn’t manage to maintain a consistent level of excitement throughout, but the finale is quite impressive and surprising. You can check out our review of Downhill right here.
Downhill stars Natalie Burn, Ignacia Allamand, Bryce Draper, Luke Massy and Ariel Levy. It has been directed by Patricio Valladares (Hidden in the Woods, The Ghosts of Garip) with a script written by himself and frequent collaborator Barry Keating.
