The trend of original horror content dominating the box-office continues, as Weapons reaches an admirable milestone.
According to the box-office numbers beginning August 17th, Zach Cregger’s sophomore film has sped past the coveted $100 million mark.
In fact, Weapons now sits at $155,000,000 worldwide; an astonishing amount for a genre film in its second weekend.
Domestically, Weapons saw a second weekend drop of 43%, significantly lower than the expected sophomore weekend drop of 50% or greater.
Internationally, Weapons held strong for a second weekend in many territories. However, the movie was dethroned by fellow sophomore weekender Freakier Friday in the United Kingdom.
The hype train for Weapons hasn’t slowed down, with Cregger’s film continuing to receive universal praise from audiences and critics. Word of mouth continues to help the film’s success grow, with social media users openly proclaiming to have taken multiple people to see the movie.
Celebrity endorsements are also coming in thick and fast, with the likes of Stephen King and Jamie Lee Curtis voicing their praise and admiration for Weapons.
After a strong start to the year with Sinners, original horror content continues to shine in Weapons, and we hope there is more to come.
