XYZ has acquired the rights to Justin P. Lange’s The Dark; a supernatural horror that marks Lange’s directorial debut. The film is based on the short story of the same name that was also directed and written by Lange back in 2013. XYZ acquired The Dark after 15 minutes of footage was screened at the Cannes Marches, so that bodes very well.
As per the description of the 17-minute short film, The Dark follows a lonely female monster who befriends a young boy who is blind. In the short film, the boy’s eyes are actually sewn shut, but it seems like he feature is moving away from this idea. The combination of dark horror and humane drama is extremely appealing, suggesting that we will be told a story that is equally as moving as it is subtly frightening.
To be co-directed by Klemens Hufnagl – who will also be the film’s cinematographer- The Dark stars Nadia Alexander, Toby Nichols and Karl Mokovics. The film currently has a release date currently slated for 2018.
