XLrator Acquires the Dark Fairy Tale The Curse of Sleeping Beauty

Posted on: November 7th, 2015

The Curse of Sleeping BeautyDirector Pearry Teo’s (The Evil Inside, Necromentia) The Curse of Sleeping Beauty has been acquired by XLrator at AFM. The film will put a modern, dark twist on the fairy tale myth and produce something that will blend Pan’s Labyrinth, Insidious and Silent Hill. They are all films that have unique and stunning visual styles, so we are intrigued to see what aspects will be taken from each.

Synopsis:
Thomas Kaiser (Ethan Peck) inherits an ancestral mansion that has been in his family for generations — only to learn that he has also inherited an ancient curse stemming back to the Crusades. Forced into his new role as “protector” — the guardian appointed to keep the evil demons in the house at bay — Thomas teams with an ambitious local realtor (Natalie Hall) and paranormal cleric (Bruce Davisonto unravel the mystery of the house, while struggling to awaken the beautiful Briar Rose (India Eisley), held captive in a terrifying netherworld seen previously in his dreams.

The concept sounds very interesting and is clearly putting a menacing edge around the much-loved children’s classic. Of course, the Brothers Grimm are known for their quite dark stories, so it will be great to see Sleeping Beauty get a particularly unnerving adaptation.

The Curse of Sleeping Beauty will star India Eisley (Underworld: Awakening) in the title role. Keep an eye out for more details. Hopefully we’ll get a sneaky trailer soon…
