You’d be hard pushed to find a bad word uttered about What We Do in The Shadows, Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi’s 2014 vampire mockumentary. Seriously, everyone loved it. Exciting news for all then, when we recently learned that a sequel of sorts was in the works.
Currently busy directing Thor: Ragnarok for Marvel, co-writer-director Waititi chatted about the project at Sundance, where his latest comedy Hunt for The Wilderpeople is premiering. Describing the film as a spin-off as opposed to a straight sequel, he also reveals that it has a title. And it’s a thing of beauty.
“Jemaine and I are trying to write a werewolves spin-off,” Waititi told Crave Online, revealing: “It’s going to be called We’re Wolves, like ‘We are wolves.’ We’re Wolves.”
Led by Rhys Darby’s insecure Anton, the werewolves (“not swearwolves”) of What We Do in The Shadows are hilarious in that memorable waterfront confrontation, and certainly exude spin-off potential.
Waititi also added that We’re Wolves (he he!) will “most likely be the next thing” after he’s done with his no doubt exhaustive work on Thor, so it’s anyone’s guess as to when it will appear on screens. In the meantime though, don’t catch fleas.
