Things continue to go from strength-to-strength for Zach Cregger’s 2025 juggernaut Weapons.
Whilst earning a slew of award nominations is impressive enough, the critically lauded horror flick is proving to be quite the victor.
Now, Weapons has collected its most significant accolade to date, and that may mean bigger things are on the horizon.
Actress Amy Madigan walked away from the 31st Annual Critics Choice Awards, adding another statue to her growing collection of accolades for Weapons.
Madigan’s portrayal of the film’s eccentric villain Aunt Gladys has taken the public zeitgeist by storm, with her unique look and quirky mannerisms. Now, it has earned Madigan the first of Hollywood’s “big three” awards.
Upon winning, Madigan took to the stage, and looking visibly emotional said:
“I really wasn’t expecting all of this because I thought people would like the movie, and I thought people would dig Gladys. But you love Gladys! I mean, it’s crazy!”
Madigan has also secured a Golden Globe nomination for her work in Weapons, and we’ll soon find out if Gladys reigns supreme at that ceremony too. Should Madigan win the Globe, the actress’ chances for an Oscar nomination will skyrocket.
Of course, Weapons wasn’t the only genre project to win big at the Critics Choice Awards. Sinners and Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein each took home multiple accolades including Best Supporting Actor, Best Performance by a Young Actor, Best Make-up, and Best Costume Design.
