“WEAPONS” PREQUEL “GLADYS” MOVING FORWARD AT WARNER BROS.

Posted on: April 11th, 2026

Zach Cregger’s Weapons was undoubtedly one of the biggest genre hits of 2025. Having made over $200 million at the worldwide box-office, the supernatural mystery also garnered a slew of awards. Most notably, Weapons won Amy Madigan the Academy Award for Best Supporting Female for her stand-out role as Aunt Gladys.

Ever since the movie’s enormous success, people have been asking for more from this universe. In particular, people longed for more of Madigan’s instantly iconic villain, with creator Cregger’s soon floating the idea of a Weapons prequel.

Now, it has been confirmed that the prequel is moving forward at Warner Bros.

As per various official sources, Zach Cregger will pen the script for the prequel, alongside Krampus scribe Zach Sheilds. The project is tentatively titled Gladys and is still in very early development, so it is unknown at this time if Amy Madigan will reprise her role.

Cregger is also set to serve as a producer on Gladys, but it has not been confirmed if he’ll undertake directing duties on the prequel.

Cregger had previously broached the idea of a Weapons prequel late last year. Following the movie’s success, the filmmaker revealed he’d cut several scenes involving Aunt Gladys’ backstory, with the intention of saving them for another film:
“There’s a story and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s not bullshit. I was ready. I had it kind of in my pocket before the movie came out.”

So, exciting news for fans of Weapons!

With more Aunt Gladys on the horizon, we’ll let you know as soon as we have any further updates.
