You may have heard that the Australian Classification Review Board was not too happy with Compulsions Games’ We Happy Few. The game was refused classification in May, because of the game’s constant preoccupation with drug use, which was an important part of the game’s story.
Nonetheless, the game has now been given a R18+ rating, which makes the game legally restricted to adults. From the ACRB:
“Computer games classified R 18+ are legally restricted to adults. Persons aged under 18 years cannot purchase computer games classified R 18+. Some material classified R 18+ may be offensive to sections of the adult community. Consumer advice is additional information about the main content of a computer game which is intended to help consumers decide if they want to view this type of material.”
We Happy Few will be released in Australia on 10th August and will be available to play on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
“We Happy Few is the tale of a plucky bunch of moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial. Set in a drug-fuelled, retrofuturistic city in an alternative 1960s England, you’ll have to blend in with its other inhabitants, who have their own set of not-so-normal rules.”
