It’s been 2 years since the second season of Wayward Pines aired on Fox, but it has now been confirmed that the series has been cancelled. There is yet to be an official announcement for why the series has been put to bed, but we can assume it’s mainly down to the ratings. Season 2 bowed out with a finale that was down 36% compared to its first season. 2.4 million tuned in, but 3.9 million people watched season 1.
It’s a shame, but season 2 just didn’t grasp the viewership. The Twin Peaks-esque show followed Matt Dillon’s character Ethan Burke as he discovers a town with strange goings-on. It was a mysterious, but slow-paced series that didn’t manage to deliver the shocks it initially promised.
M. Night Shyamalan directed the pilot episode and continued to serve the show as a showrunner. Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer worked on season 1 as co-executive producers.
