Warner Bros Secure the Rights to Monsterpocalypse

Posted on: May 5th, 2016

Warner Bros has come out on top after a fierce bidding war between studios to secure the rights to Monsterpocalypse. The film is set to be directed by Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) and is based on the board game from Privateer Press.

The board game sees humans don robot suits to battle monsters, which sounds a lot like Pacific Rim. If we don’t get the sequel to the Guillermo del Toro flick, perhaps this will serve as a welcome replacement. In fact, you can blame Pacific Rim for the reason why we haven’t had this film sooner, because Tim Burton was at the helm of an adaptation in 2010, but del Toro’s monsters v humans caused it to stall in development.

Fede Alvarez may be known for his horror endeavours, but he’s actually directed a short film called Ataque de Panico! (Panic Attack!), which shows giant robots invading a city. It’s very cool and very dramatic; check it out below.
