The unstoppable Walking Dead has been renewed for a ninth and definitely not last season. Even though the show is struggling to hit the high audience figures of its earlier seasons, it seems that AMC still has plenty of faith in its zombie-centred horror series.
The Walking Dead has also received a new showrunner in Angela Kang, who has previously worked on the show as a writer and co-executive producer since 2011 and 2013 respectively.
The show’s previous showrunner, Scott M. Gimple, will now be the Chief Content Officer for the Walking Dead television universe, which we assume includes the spin-off series Fear the Walking Dead as well as the original Walking Dead series.
When speaking about the changes Charlie Collier, president of AMC, Sundance TV and AMC Studios said:
“We are proud to acknowledge Angela’s significant contribution to the series and to set a clear path forward for a ninth season under her direction.”
The Walking Dead season 9 will premiere at the end of this year.
