Only two months after the casting announcements for Sony’s feature adaptation of horror game Until Dawn, we can confirm filming has begun.
Director David F. Sandberg confirmed that cameras are rolling with a post to Instagram. Captioning it “See you at dawn, “Sandberg’s image shows the movie’s clapboard, complete with a current date and the iconic logo from the game.
In further news, we have learned that Peter Stormare will be the only returning cast member from the 2015 video game. Trusted sources are reporting that the actor will reprise his role as Dr Hill, perhaps giving us our first hint at what plot elements will be brought over.
An ensemble of rising stars has been announced to head the cast, including Love, Victor star Michael Cimino. Joining Cimino will be Ella Rubin, who will soon be seen in Netflix’s upcoming continuation, Fear Street: Prom Queen.
Freaky Tales alum Ji-young Yoo will also join the bloodshed, as will Odessa A’zion of 2022’s Hellraiser reboot.
Annabelle: Creation scribe Gary Dauberman recently took another pass at the script, after signing a first-look deal with Sony/Screen Gems. This deal is part of Sony’s plan to make horror cinema a high priority.
Released in 2015, Until Dawn is a “choose your own adventure” style game, described as a “love-letter” to the slasher film.” The player’s decisions will directly affect the game’s outcome, as the characters are picked-off by a killer. The optimal outcome is to finish the campaign with every character alive.
The feature adaption of Until Dawn is expected to release in 2025, however, no definitive date has been issued as of this writing.
