We learnt a couple of days ago that the fourth chapter in the Insidious franchise would be titled Insidious: The Last Key, and we can now get our first proper look at it. Universal has put out a trailer for the film, which hits cinemas in January, and it certainly doesn’t hold back on the nightmarish moments, with spooks aplenty, lots of creeping around and a hand that any caretaker would kill for.
The Last Key sees The Taking of Deborah Logan director Adam Robitel stepping into the franchise, while series writer/co-creator Leigh Whannell is once again on writing duties. Set years before the events of the previous three films, The Last Key takes us back to the younger years of Lin Shaye’s Elise Rainier. Growing up in New Mexico, Rainier and her family begin to experience malevolent spirits haunting their home. The young Elises will be played by Ava Kolker (The Axe Murders of Villisca) and Hana Hayes (To The Bone).
The film also stars Josh Stewart (Interstellar, The Collector), Tessa Ferrer (The Abducted) and Marcus Henderson (Get Out, Django Unchained) plus returning stars Angus Sampson as Tucker and Leigh Whannell as Specs.
Insidious: The Last Key was produced by the established team of Blumhouse head honcho Jason Blum, Oren Peli and co-creator James Wan. It is released in the US on January 5th, 2018 and in the UK on January 12th.
