It appears it is game over for Saw XI.
Following the enormous success of 2023’s prequel Saw X; a sequel was quickly announced. Set to release just one year later, in September 2024, it seemed Saw was back to its yearly best.
However, despite the return of Saw X director Kevin Greutert, there was quickly signs that something was off behind-the-scenes.
The project was delayed a year in the summer of 2024, with a new September 2025 release date.
However, here we are in March 2025, and we’ve had no news whatsoever.
Unfortunately, it has been confirmed that Saw XI will “no longer be moving forward.” A reliable source has let slip that the project stalled “over a year ago,” and is “totally dead.”
With a script draft by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton complete, and three series stars expected to return… what happened?
Well, according to the unnamed source, friction arose between the multiple producers involved in the project. Things reached a head in January 2024, with one group of producers wanting to “push forward,” with Saw XI, while the other actively sought to stop the film being made.
The source also confirms that distributor Lionsgate is not part of the fallout.
“[Lionsgate] didn’t have anyone to smooth over the disagreement,” they concluded, suggesting Lionsgate simply didn’t have time for any drama. “Greed and ego won.”
So, as it stands, there is currently no hope for Saw XI. Undoubtedly, this will disappoint many fans, given the rousing critical and commercial reception of the previous entry.
Whilst the source suggested that Saw may reboot down the line, currently, it looks like Jigsaw’s rebirth has been cut tragically short.
