There seems to be a great deal to be thankful for of late… Perhaps most exciting of all for Eli Roth fans, the recent announcement that he’s to finally turn his Grindhouse slasher trailer Thanksgiving into a feature length product.
The faux trailer was produced as part of the Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino collaboration Grindhouse, and the gory clip immediately sparked interest. Telling the tale of a slasher targeting a small Massachusetts town where Thanksgiving is a big deal, the 80s style slasher promised several brutal set-pieces.
Now it seems the project is really gaining momentum, with Deadline reporting that TriStar Pictures has acquired the distribution right to Roth’s project with Spyglass Media providing funding.
Whilst many details are still unclear, including a release date and just how close the film will be to the legendary trailer, some solid details have emerged. TikTok creator and He’s All That star Addison Rae is reportedly taking on a significant role, marking her second theatrical film and first turn in horror.
Perhaps most exciting are the persistent rumours that Scream 3 and Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey is “in talks” to join the project. Given the project is finding a home with Spyglass Media, this has led fans to speculate if Dempsey will soon be returning to the Scream franchise as well. His character Mark Kincaid has since been revealed as the off-screen husband to Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott and fans are seeing this as the perfect excuse to bring both actors back.
Speculation abounds on both, with the only certain thing being that Roth’s Thanksgiving is underway and hopefully delivers as bloody a good time as the iconic trailer.
