A teaser trailer for the supernatural body horror Lace Crater has been released ahead of its debut at TIFF. The film follows a woman who suffers bodily changes after having sex with a ghost. Yep, we have a film that (finally!) warns of the dangers of romantic encounters with spirits.
I like to imagine that the director Harrison Atkins watched a few films like It Follows or Thanatomorphose and thought ghosts were frighteningly missed in these representations of un-safe sex. The concept alone is enough to spark my interest, but the teaser also offers an effective slice of what’s to come. It nicely blends humour with dread, showing that the film is going to be a bit of a genre-mix, which is always welcome.
Lace Crater screens today (17th) and 20th September at TIFF, so watch out for early reactions soon!
