With The Strangers – Chapter 2 about to hit theatres, the film has had several high-profile preview screenings, including Fantastic Fest.
Unfortunately, given the mixed to negative reception of Chapter 1, the sequel has an uphill battle if it’s to win fans over.
It was hoped by franchise fans that Chapter 2 would “carve a new path” for The Strangers as promised, following the by-the-numbers first chapter.
However, reliable sources are reporting to us that the initial response to Chapter 2 has been far from positive, mirroring the reception of the previous film.
According to some in attendance at early screenings, Chapter 2 is nothing more than filler. Our source tells us that the film:
“Acts as nothing more than filler content, hyping up an ending we’ve yet to see.”
Currently garnering a 25% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Chapter 2 is currently out-performing Chapter 1’s 21%. But will that trend continue once the film is open to general audiences?
Could Chapter 2 surprise us and become an unexpected hit for Lionsgate? Anything is possible… However, the film is currently tracking to make a very reserved $10 million during its opening weekend.
