Valak continues to reign atop the box-office, with The Nun II powering past $100 million worldwide.
The week beginning September 17th 2023 saw The Nun II remain atop the box office for the second weekend, taking an additional $14.7 million in the US, scaring off competition from A Haunting in Venice.
Elsewhere, The Nun II cumulatively brought in a further $58.7 million in its second weekend, although the film did lose the number one spot in some other territories.
Altogether, this means The Nun II has grossed a total of $158.8 million in its first two weeks, powering past the all important $100 million mark. This makes the movie the ninth entry in the Conjuring universe to do so, taking the series’ final tally to a whopping $2.6 billion worldwide. This makes The Conjuring Universe the most successful horror franchise in history, and it looks set to remain that way, as plenty more movies appear to be in the pipeline.
Currently there is no word on if a third chapter is planned for Valak, however, it seems unlikely at present given Bonnie Aarons’ legal action against the studios involved.
Whilst The Nun may not return any time soon, this sequel has only served to further strengthen The Conjuring Universe’s hold on the public zeitgeist, a trend that will surely continue with The Conjuring: Last Rites.
