David M. Rosenthal’s remake of Jacob’s Ladder was originally slated for a February 2019 release. That obviously didn’t happen. But now Vertical Entertainment has acquired the movie—and we should finally get our hands on it this summer.
Jacob’s Ladder will premiere on the U.S. network DISH in July before getting a theatrical release in August. The film stars Michael Ealy (The Intruder), Jesse Williams (The Cabin in the Woods), Karla Souza (How to Get Away with Murder), and Nicole Beharie (Sleepy Hollow). The script was written by Jeff Buhler, who also penned another of 2019’s big remakes, Pet Sematary.
A masterpiece of psychological horror, the 1990 original starred Tim Robbins as Vietnam vet Jacob Singer, who is tormented by horrifying visions when he returns home from the war. In this new take, Jacob is the brother of a soldier supposedly killed in Afghanistan. But after a stranger reveals that his brother is actually alive, Jacob’s life is turned upside down.
