In January last year, just after it celebrated its 25th anniversary, news reached us that a remake of The Faculty was underway at Miramax.
Very little was known at the time, only that original director Robert Rodriguez would return to produce.
Things have stayed quiet for over a year, and many fans believed the remake had stalled.
However, news reaches us that the project has gained considerable momentum, with filmmaker Drew Hancock coming aboard to pen the script.
Hancock is currently receiving considerable praise for his recently released comedy-horror-action hybrid Companion, starring Jack Quaid and Sophie Thatcher.
Whilst Hancock is confirmed in a writing capacity, it remains unknown if the filmmaker will also undertake directing duties.
Currently, Miramax’s The Faculty remake will be produced by BoulderLight, the team behind Zach Creggar’s Barbarian.
Rodriguez’s 1998 original was penned by Scream creator Kevin Williamson, and detailed a group of teens’ realising their school is being overtaken by alien beings.
The film starred Elijah Wood, Josh Hartnett, Jordana Brewster, Clea DuVall, and Shawn Hatosy. Grossing an impressive $64 million on a $15 million budget, we’re surprised it’s taken this long for Hollywood to hit the remake button.
