It looks like heads are set to spin all over again as David Gordon Green’s Exorcist sequel receives a hard R rating!
After debuting a hugely successful first trailer just a few weeks ago, hopes for the ambitious project soared, and now with the promise of some R-rated thrills, expectations will no doubt be sky-high.
Said to contain “frequent disturbing images” and “some sexual references,” series fans are no doubt immediately reminded of the 1973 original. Will we see more rotating heads and pea soup vomit from The Exorcist: Believer?
The Exorcist: Believer will see demonic events resume 50 years after the original film, with Leslie Odom Jnr and Jennifer Nettles starring as the parents of two demonically possessed young girls. Desperate for help, Odom Jnr seeks out Ellen Burstyn’s Chris MacNeil for guidance and the retired actress must once again confront the evil that possessed her own daughter.
With a universally positive reaction to the trailer, and now the promise of some truly disturbing events ahead, The Exorcist: Believer might just be a movie that defies expectations. Only time will tell.
Set to release on October 13th 2023, Universal, Blumhouse and Morgan Creek have already greenlit a sequel. The Exorcist: Deceiver will land on April 25th 2025, meaning there are plenty more demonic hijinks in store.
