“THE CONJURING: LAST RITES” FINDS ITS DIRECTOR IN MICHAEL CHAVES

Posted on: February 25th, 2024

It’s been quite a while since we had an update from The Conjuring universe.

The franchise has remained largely silent since the huge commercial success of The Nun II in September 2023. However, now we have a nugget on the upcoming The Conjuring: Last Rites.

Last Rites is set to be the fourth entry in the main Conjuring franchise, following the ghost hunting cases of Ed and Lorraine Warren. Last we heard was back in the summer, when it was confirmed that the fourth entry would bear the title The Conjuring: Last Rites, with the release of an official logo.

Now we have our first major update as it has been confirmed that Michael Chaves will serve as the movie’s director. Furthermore, it has been clarified that Last Rites will be the final entry in the Warren saga, thereby ending the main franchise.

Michael Chaves is somewhat of a Conjuring Universe veteran, having previously directed 2019’s The Curse of La Llorona, 2020’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, and 2023’s The Nun II. Whilst none of these entries reached the dizzying $300 million+ heights of James Wan’s first two Conjuring chapters, each overshot its box-office projections, grossing almost $600 million cumulatively.

Chaves is clearly a filmmaker the franchise owners trust with this highly-anticipated final chapter, and we are eager to see what he has in store.

Currently, little else is known about The Conjuring: Last Rites, other than leads Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson being expected to return. here is no release date in place for the Warrens’ final outing, but The Conjuring: Last Rites is expected sometime in 2025.
