The Best 9 Horror Movies Regardless of the Platform to Play on Halloween

Posted on: October 24th, 2023

Here at SCREAM, October is always the perfect time of year to get spooky, whether you are searching for a good scare all fall long or a few frights around Halloween. Because of this, we have compiled a list of the top horror games for the Switch, mobile devices, and other platforms that will keep you up all night long with their spine-tingling thrills, horrifying ghouls, and hair-raising haunts.

Let us start playing the greatest horror games! Turn off the lights and grab the closest pillow…

# 1 Five Nights at Freddy’s

Although this is not a single game, how could we compile a list of the top horror games excluding the FNAF series, which is among the most recognisable in recent memory to play on mobile? This is one you should be familiar with by now, especially when it comes to the mysteries of Freddy Fazbear and pals. Your objective is to survive the night as a security guard (or, in one game, a child) and escape getting chomped by a collection of eerie, demonic animatronics. It is so easy to fall in love with this game!

Go online to check out some FNAF download guides to get you started right away so you never have to miss a scare; there you will find the list of Five Nights at Freddy’s characters and jump-scares guides. There is also a list of all the best FNAF plushies, in case you need a creepy-cute pal to cuddle up to on a dark night.

The FNAF movie is on the way, and as is customary with this brand, it promises to be plenty of jump-scares and spooks. This is great news for those of you who enjoy visiting Freddy Fazebear’s restaurant. The movie FNAF will be on air since Friday, October 27.

Platforms to play: Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS.

# 2 Resident Evil

Without the original Resident Evil series in its ranks, what kind of horror game list would it be? The Resident Evil series is full of masterpieces, many of which you can enjoy either on your handy hybrid console either on the move or lounging in bed.

Since there are far too many terrifying things to discuss here, we will just leave you to find the lists of the Resident Evil characters (including franchise staples like Chris, Jill, and Leon) and guides to the greatest Resident Evil games on the Switch so you can get acquainted with these breathtaking survival gems. Additionally, we are eagerly awaiting the iPhone releases of Resident Evil 7, 8, and of the Resident Evil 4 remake.

Platforms to play: It depends, some parts of the franchise are playable only on PC and PlayStation 4, while others can be enjoyed on practically all platforms – PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch, etc.

# 3 The Mortuary Assistant

You play as, you guessed it, a mortuary assistant in the wonderfully bizarre adventure, simulation, and horror game The Mortuary Assistant. This one requires a strong stomach since, in addition to going through the entire process of examining and embalming a corpse, you will also have to deal with demons.

That is correct, this is not just any morgue; it seems to be a demonic hotspot. Before the night is over, you must determine which body is possessed and the name of the demon, unless you want to go down to the underworld with them. While completing the task at hand, you will encounter numerous unnerving apparitions, spine-tingling jump-scares, and clues about the horrific past our protagonist has experienced. This lady deserves to be named employee of the month—she is quite a professional.

In certain aspects, the game is fairly brief. After the first night, you can still work shifts, though it is uncommon that two nights will be the same because the “haunt events” are unpredictable. If you want to try to put together all the many components of the game’s bizarre universe, there are also a number of endings that you can investigate.

Platforms to play: Nintendo Switch and Microsoft Windows.

# 4 Dead by Daylight

Playing the famous asymmetrical multiplayer game Dead by Daylight (DBD), you can choose to play as the killer or the victim. As a killer, you can select from a variety of well-known characters and use all of their vicious abilities to track down your target. Your primary objective as a survivor is implied by the name: you have to live. It is totally up to you how you go about doing it. Will you toss your teammates under the chainsaw to save yourself, or will you aid your teammates? Whatever happens, it is going to be an absolute blast.

October brings Halloween eSports events to Dead by Daylight, along with a host of other titles that have become popular in the competitive gaming industry, such as Call of Duty, Overwatch 2, and many more. It is likely that every active live-service game is either debuting shortly or has some sort of Halloween-themed event happening now that is offered on the best online betting sites in 2023 at

The biggest and most prominent one you can look forward to when it comes to DBD is Haunted by Daylight. It will place from October 18 until November 6 with a lot of special items and cosmetics available, charms to unlock, and completing objectives like repairing Halloween generators and destroying pumpkins. Gamers will know what we are talking about.

Get some of Dead by Daylight codes online if you are going to be getting into some slasher action, and keep an eye on the launch of the Dead by Daylight movie, which ought to be the next big Hollywood release. Behaviour Interactive has announced that Atomic Monster, owned by James Wan, and Blumhouse, owned by Jason Blum, will collaborate on a DBD film. Indeed, the company behind huge hits like The Purge, The Black Phone, and M3GAN is going to adapt the multiplayer, kill-or-be-killed video game.

Platforms to play: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Android, iOS, Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Google Stadia.

# 5 Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo

The graphic novel Paranormasight will chill you to the bone by drawing you into a complex web of stories about a cast of characters who are cursed to death. Explore the dreams, anxieties, and motivations of these intriguing characters as you uncover the Seven Mysteries of Honjo and delve further into the horrors of the world around you, all set against a masterfully rendered backdrop of late 20th-century Japan.

This video game, which was released in March, is without a doubt a masterpiece and the pinnacle of visually thrilling games with mystical elements. We think it is worth every penny because you get a ton of lore, horror, and attention to detail for the shockingly low price of 19,99€.

Platforms to play: Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, and Microsoft Windows.

# 6 Detention

With origins in both martial law and the repressive terror of the White Terror, Detention is a wonderfully eerie game that draws heavily on Taiwanese-Chinese folklore and mythology.

Gracing the gorgeously macabre 2D world of a 1960s high school, you will discover a world of hostile supernatural happenings and a profound fear of the demons that lurk within each of us. It may cut near to the bone for some and touches on some serious issues, but if you think you can manage it, this tiny treasure is incredibly artistic.

Platforms to play: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Android, Linux, Microsoft Windows, and macOS.

MADiSON is a terrifyingly delightful psychological horror film that features a disorienting plot, dissuading puzzles, a suffocating atmosphere, and an overwhelming sense of dread.

With only a Polaroid camera at your disposal, you must slowly walk around a haunting building while piecing together a horrifying story of murder, demons, and possession—and figure out how it all connects to you. This one’s intense suspense, excruciating pacing, and macabre riddles underneath were all wonderfully done.

Platforms to play: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, and Microsoft Windows.

# 8 Spirit Hunter: Death Mark

Spirit Hunter: Death Mark has a cult following despite having straightforward point-and-click and visual novel gameplay, in large part because of its captivating narrative and spine-tingling artwork. Play as a man who discovers a strange scar on his arm that resembles a bitemark but has no memory of anything, not even his name. When the gang arrives at a house with other people who have the same scar, they learn that they are all cursed by spirits and that their days are limited as long as they bear the mark on their bodies.

After that, you set out on an adrenaline-pumping adventure where you battle spirits and, in essence, exorcise them in order to save the other mark bearers and yourself. If you want to see a ghost again, you have to unravel and make sense of their terrible and horrible past. Similar to Paranormasight, Spirit Hunter: Death Mark does not have voice acting, but the eerie soundtrack and noises make up for it. Just be advised that some really serious issues may be handled, making it inappropriate for some audiences.

Platforms to play: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.

# 9 Alien: Isolation

You step into the role of Ripley’s daughter in this fantastic return to the Alien universe. You are stuck aboard a barren spacecraft and must utilise every resource at your disposal to find the reason for your mother’s disappearance, evade the fearsome Xenomorph, and, well, survive.

It is understandable why this game has been at the top of many horror lovers’ lists for so long—it is pretty much everything we could have possibly wanted in a game based on the venerable Alien franchise. So definitely give it a shot if you have an affinity for aliens and are really afraid of them.

Platforms to play: PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Android, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, and Amazon Luna.

There you have it: our list of the top 2023 horror games. We will leave it there for the time being because, if we included every horror game we wanted, we would be here till Halloween of the next year. Okay, we will just mention a few more that also deserve to be presented: Luigi’s Mansion 3, Poppy Playtime, Spirit Hunter: NG, Amanda the Adventurer, and the Roblox series (Rainbow Friends, Roblox Doors…) if you feel like getting a piece of your fright somewhere else.
