“Aye, ‘cause nothing bad ever happens in the fucking woods…”
Back in 2007, it was reported that a Scottish horror movie entitled The Bench would see release the following year.
Described as a “loving tribute” to Tobe Hooper’s seminal classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre,” the film also borrows the rundown old cabin trope from Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead.
Following a group of friends on a rural getaway, events soon take a sinister turn when one group member tells the legend of Chester. Said to kill campers trespassing on his former home, the local legend would tie them to his trusty workbench and let fly with any sharp implement that came to hand.
Sadly for the group, this is no tall tale to frighten curious children, and they are soon plunged into a bloody nightmare that not all of them will survive.
Initially pegged for a 2008 release, nothing was heard of The Bench until 2012, when various media outlets reported that the Grindhouse throwback would soon be hitting home media… However, all would remain silent for another 12 years.
Now, The Bench has been upscaled and remastered, and is finally available to view on Amazon Prime.
The movie stars Joy McAvoy, Matt McClure, and Tony McGeever, all of whom have gone on to hugely significant projects since The Bench initially completed photography in 2007.
