2024 seems to be the season for movies breaking records.
First, we had Longlegs becoming the highest grossing independent film of all time, sitting pretty at over $100 million.
Then, on the opposite end of the scale, Joker 2 broke the world record for biggest second weekend drop in history, with an eye-watering 86%.
Now we have a new one to add to the list, and it only serves to add to Art the Clown’s blossoming reputation as a horror heavyweight.
Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3 has officially become the highest-grossing unrated film of all time, currently sitting at an impressive $55.1 million worldwide.
Leone tweeted his joy at this milestone, as this means the three-quel has eclipsed the entire box-office grosses of Terrifier and it’s 2019 sequel Terrifier 2.
Posting on X, Leone stated:
“Terrifier 3 crosses $50M at the worldwide box office and officially becomes the highest grossing unrated film, even surpassing the highest grossing NC-17 films.”
Terrifier 3 shatters the record previously held by pop superstar Beyonce’s concert film Renaissance. When released as an unrated film last year, the project managed to garner $43 million worldwide for Queen Bey, a record that Art has now slaughtered.
Whilst the movie looks set to continue making money in theatres, a physical media release date has been set for December 17th. Terrifier 3 is expected to premiere on SCREAMBOX and Shudder sometime between now and then.
