It’s hard to know what to say about the upcoming Suspiria remake anymore. Retreading such a vital and widely beloved piece of cinema was never going to be a move that went unchallenged, and most of us are a little (or a lot) cynical about it. The strength of the assembled cast has made it impossible to write-off completely however, and maybe, just maybe director Luca Guadagnino has come up with something special. Either way, the film has now wrapped and is, as reported by Deadline, heading to the European Film Market in Berlin next week with FilmNation aboard the project for international sales.
An Amazon Studios production, the new take on Dario Argento’s seminal 1977 classic stars the always awesome Tilda Swinton, Kick-Ass’ Chloë Grace Moretz, Mia Goth (Nymphomaniac Vol. II) and 50 Shades of Grey’s Dakota Johnson, as well as, in a cunning move, Jessica Harper, who led the original film playing Suzy Bannion.
The remake was written by David Kajganich, who adapted his version from Argento and Daria Nicolodi’s original script. Amazon Studios picked up the project last year for worldwide distribution rights and financed the film’s production.
Argento hit out against the project last year, revealing that he had not been consulted in any way, or even received a phone call.
Hopefully we’ll have some news for you regarding release strategies following the film’s visit to EFM.
