STEPHEN KING LENDS PRAISE TO SLASHER “IN A VIOLENT NATURE”

Posted on: June 19th, 2024

Praise from Stephen King is high praise indeed. Over the last year we’ve reported King’s reactions to Evil Dead Rise, and the seemingly-still-lost Salem’s Lot reboot.

Now, King has leant his voice in support of IFC and Shudder’s unique slasher tale In a Violent Nature. The tale comes from filmmaker Chris Nash, and has been getting much notice for its unconventional approach. Told from a homicidal killer’s perspective, In a Violent Nature makes use of long one-takes, has no musical score, and ambient, realistic sound-design.

In his undeniably unique summing up of his thoughts, King said of the film:
“IN A VIOLENT NATURE: If you need a slasher movie, this one will do the job. It’s leisurely, almost languorous, but when the blood flows, it flows in buckets. The killer in his mask looks like the world’s most terrifying Minion.”

If the replies are any indication, King’s words have influenced quite a few people to go see the Canadian slasher offering for themselves. Actress Lauren-Marie Taylor, known for her roles in 1981’s Friday the 13th Part 2, and 1984’s Girls Nite Out, has a small part in the film, and couldn’t contain her excitement at being noticed by King.

Sharing a screenshot of King’s tweet to Instagram, Taylor captioned her post:
“Am I dreaming?! Stephen King popped some popcorn and saw In A Violent Nature! Where are my smelling salts?”

In a Violent Nature is currently in limited theatres across the United States, and will be released to Shudder at some point later this year.
