STEPHEN KING COMMENTS ON “LOST” “SALEM’S LOT” ADAPTION

Posted on: March 2nd, 2024

The King has spoken!

It’s been a little while since we had anything new to say about the somewhat troubled remake of Stephen King’s novel Salem’s Lot. Last we reported was that test screenings had taken place, but it seemed likely the film would go straight-to-streaming.

Having been complete for almost two years now, the Gary Dauberman directed flick can’t seem to get a release from Warner Bros. First slated for a Labour Day 2022 outing, the movie was pushed back 7 months to “Spring 2023.” It’s been almost a year since then, and Warner Bros. remain silent on the adaption, save for a brief statement claiming it’s “still on the release schedule.”

Now, Stephen King himself has spoken out on the issue, praising the new adaption of his work, whilst calling out the studio.

Writing on X, the author had the following to say in a post that has garnered much attention:
“Between you and me, Twitter, I’ve seen the new SALEM’S LOT and it’s quite good. Old-school horror filmmaking: slow build, big payoff. Not sure why WB is holding it back; not like it’s embarrassing, or anything. Who knows. I just write the fucking things.”

Evidently the studio cared enough to let King view the film, but something makes them hesitant to release it. What could that be? Praise from King is the ultimate seal of approval, so, surely Salem’s Lot deserves to see the light of day?

Salem’s Lot concerns a young writer returning to his titular home town. Things seem slightly off as residents begin to exhibit odd behaviour before disappearing. Soon it becomes apparent that the town of Salem’s Lot has been targeted to begin a nest of blood-hungry vampires.

The newest adaption of King’s 1975 novel stars Lewis Pullman, Alfre Woodard, and Spencer Treat Clark and is produced by James Wan.

We will keep our eyes peeled for any further information regarding this mysteriously troubled release, but currently, the outcome is rather bleak.
