Marvel’s upcoming Blade reboot has found its writer. Stacy Osei-Kuffour (Watchmen) will be penning the film, which will star Mahershala Ali as the titular vampire slayer.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, which broke the news: “Marvel has spent the last six months meeting with writers in what was described as a meticulous search with which Ali was directly involved. Only Black writers were seriously considered, a reflection of Marvel’s focus on diversity and making representation a key factor.”
Osei-Kuffour is the first Black female writer to pen a Marvel feature. Nia DaCosta (Candyman), who is set to direct the upcoming Captain Marvel 2, will be the studio’s first Black female director.
