We’re sure Paramount are smiling right now…
Easily one of the most anticipated horror films of the year, Parker Finn’s Smile 2 had a tough act to follow.
Finn’s 2022 original became the highest performing original genre film of the year, grossing an impressive $217 million worldwide.
Industry experts waited with baited breath to see how Finn’s 2024 sequel would fare against the original.
As it turns out, it fared brilliantly. Taking in $23 million domestically, Smile 2 landed right on target, with estimates forecasting it to gross $20-25 million. Of course, this meant it topped the box-office, and beat its predecessor’s opening performance by $400,000.
Elsewhere, Smile 2 racked up an additional $23 million, bringing the movie’s worldwide opening total to an impressive $46 million.
This was enough to knock Terrifier 3 off the top spot and into third place… we’re sure Art the Clown won’t be happy about that.
Not just a financial success, Smile 2 has went over well with critics, with the movie’s script, performances and overall sense of scale receiving praise.
The movie’s soundtrack has also been burning up the Spotify charts, making Smile 2 a winner in every sense of the word.
Can a sequel be just as good as the original? Smile 2 opens this old debate once again. What do you think?
