For a while, it looked like Sony was attempting to ditch it’s creepypasta-inspired horror movie Slender Man following a postponement and word that the film’s producers were seeking a new distributor (citing the studio’s failure to give the flick a full promotional push). We’re getting word today, however, that Slender Man will be hitting theaters sooner than previously reported. Unfortunately, the King of Creepypasta will have to go head-to-head with a giant shark in a battle to get butts in seats.
The new release date for Slender Man is August 10th; though this is 2 weeks sooner than previously announced, it means Slender Man will be released the same weekend at The Meg, a film horror fans have been looking forward to with much more enthusiasm. Will genre aficionados drop the dough for two blockbusters on a single weekend, or will Slender Man be devoured? Time will tell.
Give the trailers and synopses for both Slender Man and The Meg a look-see below.
Synopsis:
Terror strikes when four teenage girls in a small town perform a ritual to debunk the lore of a tall, thin, horrifying figure known as the Slender Man. They soon fear that the legend is true when one of them suddenly goes missing.
Synopsis:
A massive creature attacks a deep-sea submersible, leaving it disabled and trapping the crew at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. With time running out, rescue diver Jonas Taylor must save the crew and the ocean itself from an unimaginable threat — a 75-foot-long prehistoric shark known as the Megalodon.
