Whilst we’re used to seeing how these events drive the family members to the edge of insanity, have you ever wondered how these events affect the family pet?
Well, wonder no more! Writer-director Ben Leonberg brings us Good Boy; the tale of a haunting told from a beloved pooch’s perspective.
After premiering at 2025’s SXSW Festival, Leonberg’s film has gain significant attention following its critical lauding. In particular, the performance of lead actor Indy has been heaped with praise, with the titular doggo delivering a “surprisingly moving” performance. Following its festival success, Good Boy was acquired for distribution by IFC and Shudder, and will release theatrically on October 3rd 2025.
In a newly released trailer, we get our first look at Good Boy’s unique narrative perspective. After moving to a quiet farmhouse in upstate New York, it appears Indy is the first one aware that something otherworldly lurks inside the walls.
Of course, it’s long been said that animals are much more sensitive to supposedly paranormal events, but never has it been depicted so directly on-screen.
During one particularly frightening moment, we see Indy investigating the downstairs hallway. Whilst his back is turned, a shadowy figure crosses frame, causing the dog to yelp in fright.
A test of loyalty and undying love in the face of pure evil, Good Boy dares to make us ponder if a dog can carry a horror film… And from the looks of the trailer, Indy has it covered!
The trailer has received widespread acclaim online, being viewed over 500,000 times in its first two days. Google reports that searches for “does the dog die in Good Boy” increased 2000% following the clip’s premiere.
With so many people on Indy’s side, we don’t doubt that everyone will turn out for his theatrical debut on October 3rd.
