Will Ellen Ripley ever return to the franchise?
Since the release of Romulus, fans have been vocal online about their wish to see Weaver’s Ripley team up with Cailee Spaeny’s Rain… It would be quite the kick-ass pair, we agree.
Now, Weaver has broken her silence on if she would return to the Alien series, and the news is promising.
“I feel like [Ripley’s] never far away from me, but on the other hand I have yet to read a script that said ‘you have got to do this,’” Weaver begins. “So, for me, she is in this other dimension, safe from the Alien for the time being. I don’t really think about it, but you know, it’s not completely impossible, and certainly a lot of good filmmakers are inspired by the material.”
Although Weaver likes the idea that Ellen Ripley has found her happy ending, she further elaborated that she’s never opposed to a return to her most iconic role.
“How much does the public really need or want another Ripley movie?” Weaver ponders. “I don’t really sit around and think about it, but if it came up, I would consider it. It has come up a bunch of times, but I’m also busy doing other things. Ripley has earned her rest.”
So, although she’s very busy, about to undertake a West End play, a Star Wars spin-off and two more Avatar pictures, Weaver will always be open to an Alien return.
With the success of Alien: Romulus, surely now would be the perfect time to wow Weaver with a killer script and take advantage of her consideration? We live in hope!
