We’ve had a plethora of haunted house movies over the years. Be it House on Haunted Hill, The Haunting, Amityville, or The Conjuring universe, many families have been terrorised on-screen by malevolent spirits.
However, have you ever wondered what that haunting phenomenon does to the beloved family pet? Well, wonder no more!
Filmmaker Ben Leonberg had this exact idea, and decided his dog Indy would be the perfect actor to star in Good Boy.
Good Boy follows Indy as he and his owner and best friend Todd move from the city to Todd’s old country home. However, immediately wary of his new home, Indy begins to catch terrifying glimpses of a malevolent entity. A previous owner haunts the property, and has Todd in his sights as the perfect candidate for possession.
Aided by a spirit dog tethered to the home, Indy sets out on a mission to conquer the evil and save his best friend.
After making quite a splash recently at the SXSW festival, we can now confirm that Good Boy has been picked up by Shudder for distribution. It remains unclear if they intend to release the movie to theatres, or directly to their streaming service.
Of their new acquisition, Shudder SVP of Acquisitions and Production Emily Gotto said:
“Ben Leonberg’s debut is a singular experience in perspective-driven horror. Told entirely through the eyes of Indy, a devoted dog whose terror and determination to save his human become our own, the film delivers a haunting and emotional experience that introduces a surprising standout performance from Indy and a strikingly assured first feature from Leonberg.”
Alongside Indy, Good Boy stars Shane Jensen, Larry Fessenden, Arielle Friedman, Anya Krawcheck, and Stuart Rudin.
We’ll let you know when we have any further updates on Good Boy, including a release date, so watch this space.
