Cary Elwes (Saw) has joined the cast of Shrine, Screen Gems’ upcoming horror film written and directed by Evan Spiliotopoulos. Katie Aselton (The Gift) has also been cast, replacing the previously announced Jordana Brewster, who had to withdraw from the project due to scheduling conflicts.
Based on James Herbert’s best-selling novel, Shrine centres around a small New England town touched by an apparition of the Virgin Mary and home to a series of seemingly divine miracles. A disgraced journalist tries to use the “miracles” to resurrect his career… but their source may be darker than he realises.
Ghost House Pictures’ Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert are producing the film, which will also star Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Walking Dead), William Sadler (VFW), Marina Mazepa (Malignant), and Christine Adams (Black Lightning). Production is currently underway in Massachusetts.
