The Saw franchise is gearing up to deliver more elaborate carnage, with Tobin Bell confirmed to be reprising his iconic role of John Kramer, aka the Jigsaw killer. It has been reported that he may not be the only franchise heavy-hitter making a comeback for the tenth instalment: Shawnee Smith is also reportedly in talks to return as Amanda Young!
Introduced in the very first film, in which she had to escape the iconic “Reverse Bear Trap,” Amanda was a drug addict who Jigsaw taught to cherish her life in the most horrific way possible. Amanda later became one of many apprentices of Jigsaw before being killed alongside him in Saw III.
With both characters now long dead, it seems likely that Saw 10 will make use of flashbacks—a staple of the franchise—or take the form of a prequel.
In other casting news, Saw 10 will also star Synnøve Macody Lund (Ragnarok), Steven Brand (The Sandman), and Michael Beach (Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story). Long-time franchise editor Kevin Greutert is back in the director’s chair, having previously helmed the excellent Saw VI and the fun yet silly Saw: The Final Chapter.
The as-yet-untitled Saw 10 is currently in production and is slated to release on October 27, 2023.
