Zac Efron practises his best Ted Bundy smile with director Joe Berlinger in this photo from the set of true-life drama Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, which is currently filming in Covington, Kentucky. While Efron seemed an unlikely casting choice when first announced, the likeness to serial killer Bundy is pretty fucking creepy.
The film plays out from the perspective of Bundy’s live-in girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer, who is played by Okja’s Lily Collins. Kloepfer spent years denying the accusations levelled at Bundy, but was eventually the one who turned him in to the police. She did not learn the extent of his crimes however, until he began to talk more about the murders before his 1989 execution.
Oscar nominee John Malkovich plays Judge Edward Cowart, the man who presided over Bundy’s 1979 trial and ultimately sentenced him to death. The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons is playing Larry Simpson, the lead prosecutor in the trial, while Westworld’s Angela Sarafyan appears as Joanna, a close friend of Kloepfer. Also appearing in the film are Burn Notice’s Jeffrey Donovan and Under the Dome’s Grace Victoria Cox.
