With filming wrapped, it seemed that the wait was now afoot for Scream 7’s February 27th 2026 release.
However, now we’re receiving information that changes that mood of anticipation to one of concern.
As was announced some time ago, Warner Bros are currently working on an animated musical adaption of Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat, starring Bill Hader. Previously set to release on March 6th 2026, we’re now hearing that Warner have pulled up the release date to February 27th.
Of course, this puts the animated feature in direct competition with Scream 7, something the movie hoped to avoid with the far-off date.
Given the tremendous success of 2018’s animated adaption of The Grinch, going head-to-head with another animated Seuss property could spell disaster for Scream 7.
Paramount Pictures may take their chances against The Cat in the Hat, but previous instances of box-office competition have not ended in Scream’s favour. This was the case with 2011’s Scream 4, which opened opposite the animated 3-D adventure Rio, on April 15th 2011. Whilst Rio scored an admirable $32 million, Scream 4 severely disappointed with $19 million, finishing in second place. Domestically, Scream 4 remains the worst performing entry in the franchise, and this is largely contributed to the fierce box-office competition.
So, will we see an announcement in the near-future that Scream 7 has moved to a safer date? From what we’re hearing, it looks likely.
However, will Paramount opt to release the sequel sooner or later than expected? Only time will tell.
We’ll keep a close eye on this and bring you any further updates. All we can say is that we greatly hope Paramount Pictures make the right choice. A lot is riding on the success of Scream 7, after all.
