“SCARY MOVIE” REBOOT ON THE WAY FROM PARAMOUNT PICTURES

Posted on: April 26th, 2024

It was only a matter of time, wasn’t it?

Among the straggling announcements to come from Cinema-Con, we have the news that the popular 2000’s spoof series Scary Movie will be receiving a reboot.

Acting as the sixth official instalment in the franchise, the project will be coming to us courtesy of Paramount Pictures and Miramax.

Neil H. Moritz will produce the project; however, concrete details are currently sparse.

We are currently hearing from a reliable source that a “legacy” cast member from previous Scary Movie entries is attached to the film, however, we don’t know who.

Fans are hopeful that the attached party will turn out to be Anna Faris or Regina Hall, both of whom have starred in four of the previous five entries.

The franchise came to a disappointing end with 2013’s critically maligned Scary Movie 5. Prior, the series had been consistently successful at the box-office, despite critical lashing.

The news of a reboot begs the question… just what will they parody this time? With legacy slasher sequels still being a hot commodity, fans are betting we have a legacy sequel spoof directly related to the 2000 original. However, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Scary Movie 6 is expected to shoot this fall, for an unspecified 2025 release.
