It’s been quite a while since we’ve had an update from the world of Saw. The last concrete news we had was that Lionsgate had pushed the movie back a year to ensure the best outcome.
Since then, little has been revealed, other than the stepping down of writers Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger.
Now, it has come to light that longtime Saw alumni Marcus Dunstan will be taking on the writing duties, and he recently offered a quick update on the project.
When asked about what to expect form the eleventh Saw entry, Dunstan said the follow:
“We’re writing XI right now, and Kevin Greutert is returning to direct. That’s one where it’s got something new to say, and it’s angry.”

As Dunstan mentioned, longtime Saw collaborator Kevin Greutert will be returning to direct, following the massive success of Saw X.
A prequel, set between the first and second instalments, Saw X became the best reviewed film in the franchise’s history, grossing $112 million on a $13 million budget. It is currently unknown if Saw XI will continue this prequel continuity, or spin-off yet another timeline.
So, despite being pushed back a year, Saw XI looks to be moving along smoothly, with official announcements expected in early 2025.
Currently, the movie is set to hit screens on September 26th 2025.
