Whilst official announcements regarding Scream 7 have dried up for the time being, one franchise alum is eager to return.
Recently, Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar has been pushing to return to the iconic slasher franchise.
Gellar was a particularly high-profile casting for 1997’s Scream 2, given her immense popularity at the time. Although her role as Cici Cooper was brief, the actress made an undeniable mark on the Scream series. Many cite the tense phone call and chase scene given to Gellar among some of the best scenes the Scream franchise has to offer.
So, perhaps unsurprisingly, Sarah is eager to return for the seventh entry. The actress began to make her wishes known this past week, sharing a fan’s Instagram post to her story. Said post pondered why, given the plethora of past characters returning in Scream 7, Gellar hadn’t been approached. The actress then tagged franchise creator Kevin Williamson.
Gellar doubled down on her stance more recently, stating in a red-carpet interview:
“I thought you said Scream! No, I’m not in Scream… I tried. Nobody wanted me.”
When corrected by the host that she had been in the Scream franchise, Gellar clarified:
“No, the new one. They’re bringing everybody back; I thought I would get a call… I didn’t get a call.”
When reminded that her character died in Scream 2, and how that same reason left her adamant about not returning to other projects, Gellar artfully countered:
“But there’s a lot of people who died in the Scream movies that are back now! Skeet, Lillard… I’m just saying, I’m waiting for my call.”
So, despite being steadfast her I Know What You Did Last Summer character was too dead to return, it looks like Sarah is eager to return to the world of Scream. Given how the seventh entry is bending the rules to enable previously deceased characters to reappear… It’s certainly possible.
Would fans go for a Sarah Michelle Gellar cameo in a future Scream movie? We’re thinking definitely.
