The horror community took in a collective gasp last month when it was announced that Buffy the Vampire Slayer would be returning for a revival.
Despite many attempts over the years, fans were not interested without the involvement of star Sarah Michelle Gellar. Despite the offer arriving multiple times, Gellar steadfastly refused to reprise her iconic role.
So, when Gellar herself confirmed she would be reprising the role of Buffy Summers for a Hulu revival, fans rejoiced.
Although the star clarified that this has been a years long process, Gellar asked fans to be patient, as she wanted the project to be “just right.”
Despite her plea for patience, Gellar has recently issued an update that has gotten fans aflutter.
In a recent interview, the actress said of the Buffy revival:
“We’ve set up our offices, which means things are progressing probably faster than I’d anticipated.”
However, Gellar reiterated her previous statements, saying:
“But, it’s going to be a process, I think. To do it the way it needs to be done, everyone has to be patient with all of us, because this isn’t something that [will just happen]”
So, with things moving quickly, and offices opening, it seems Hulu are interested in much more than a “pilot order,” as previously stated.
Acclaimed director Chloe Zhao will helm the project, from a script by Nora and Lila Zuckerman. Dolly Parton, Gail Berman, Fran Kazui, and Kaz Kazui will produce the revival, alongside Gellar.
Whilst no further word has officially been announced, a reliable source tells us that Buffy’s revival will focus on a new Slayer. Gellar’s Buffy Summers, along with other characters we know, will return in a recurring or guest starring capacity.
For now, that’s all we have on this long-awaited project. However, we’ll be watching very closely and report any further updates as soon as we can.
