After previously doubting the possibility of a sequel to his 2009 hit Drag Me to Hell, it seems director Sam Raimi has had a change of heart.
Speaking to Bloody Disgusting in 2019, the filmmaker revealed he was not in the headspace to enter that world again, having just landed the Marvel film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Raimi also stated that Alison Lohman’s Christine Brown was most assuredly dead after being dragged to hell as the title suggested. Raimi further elaborated that “in my mind, the character got killed… and worse.”
However, rather unexpectedly, Raimi revealed during a Reddit AMA this past week that a sequel might still be on the cards when pressed by one user.
“The team at Ghost House Pictures: Romel Adam and Jose Canas, are trying to come up with a story that would work and I’m anxious to hear if they do!” Raimi stated.
Although the response keeps things vague, Drag Me to Hell 2 still seems like it’s very much a possibility. Obviously no further concrete details have emerged, but we will keep our eye on this one!
With Raimi producing the new Evil Dead sequel due in April, maybe this is the perfect time for him to hop back into the horror directing chair?
