RY BARRETT GIVES UPDATE ON “IN A VIOLENT NATURE 2”

Posted on: November 9th, 2024

Back in July, IFC and Shudder announced a sequel to their surprise hit slasher In a Violent Nature. Appearing at San Diego Comic-Con, the movie’s iconic villain Johnny appeared on-stage to accompany the announcement.

Since then, we haven’t heard a peep as to the status of the sequel, with some worrying the announcement was premature, and it may not be happening.

However, Ry Barrett, the hulking actor that portrayed Johnny, recently gave an update that will undoubtedly quell those fears. Speaking following a recent convention appearance, Barrett had the following to say about the status of In a Violent Nature 2:
“A sequel has been green-lit. I’m just sitting back to wait for the script because that’s the first most important part and Nash is working on that right now. So, we’re just going to sit back and wait to find out what crazy new shit that he’s going to have everybody doing. So, we’re just excited that it’s gonna happen.”

There we have it, I guess we’ll just have to be patient, as the sequel is still in the very early stages of development… sigh.

Craig Nash’s In a Violent Nature won critical lauding with its unique new approach to the slasher formula. Told from the killer’s perspective, the film makes use of ambient sound, has no music, and relies on snatches of dialogue and visual cues to tell its story.

Described as a “grass roots slasher,” In a Violent Nature soon became IFC’s highest grossing theatrical release, with the fresh take on a well-known formula winning over audiences as well as critics.

Given the success, it’s little wonder a sequel was announced so quickly. However, it seems we’ll have to wait a little while for Johnny’s return.
