Universal is looking to add another massive name to its superhero-esque world of monsters and, this time, it’s Russell Crowe. The actor is currently in talks to play Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde in The Mummy, although nothing is currently set in stone.
That’s right, Universal is planning to add even more characters to their monstrous reboots in the hope of them landing their own spinoff franchises. At this rate, every A-lister is going to have starred in one of these movies and we are, quite literally, going to see every single original Universal monster get their own franchise.
We’re not complaining, because after the disappointing miniseries on ITV in the UK this year, the story could do with a bit of a do-over. Dr. Jekyll is a great character for an actor to really get their teeth into and Crowe has a vast set of different characters to his name, so we’re confident in his ability to balance the madness and sanity that is required for this complex character.
The Mummy currently stars Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson and Courtney B. Vance. The film is set to be released on 9th June 2017.
