Now that The Witch has begun to be released theatrically, audiences far and wide can finally immerse themselves in its undeniable greatness. For a debut it’s particularly impressive and director Robert Eggers is sure to see many horror doors opening before him.
Eggers is currently tied to the untitled remake of the classic Nosferatu, but he has now been announced as a director of a planned TV series focusing on Rasputin. Delving once again in to a story grounded in reality, Eggers will be bringing the story of the mystic Grigori Rasputin to the smalls screen. The influential character eventually met his demise in a river after being assassinated in 1916. He was criticised for his influence of the Tsar Nicolas and his wife Alexandra in Russia, but the details are rather hazy. A lot of the apparent ‘truth’ about Rasputin is actually myth, so Eggers could take the story to some strange and, hopefully, chilling places.
The Witch is one of the best horror films for a long time – you can read our 5 star review here – so we will always be interested in what Eggers attaches his name to. A TV series focusing on Rasputin does sound rather fantastic, but whether the Rasputin will be as scary as the one from Anastasia, we’re not so sure…
Keep your eyes peeled for more as it comes.
