We’re saddened to hear that actor Hal Holbrook has passed away at the age of 95.
To horror fans, Holbrook was perhaps best known for playing Father Malone in John Carpenter’s The Fog. He also played Henry Northrup in the Creepshow segment “The Crate,” and appeared in a variety of other genre films, including 1977’s Rituals and 1988’s The Unholy.
Outside of horror, Holbrook will be remembered for his roles in films like Lincoln, Wild in the Streets, and Into the Wild, the latter of which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 2008. He also had a memorable turn in All the President’s Men, playing the whistleblower known as Deep Throat who exposed the Watergate scandal.
