James Winburn, one of the first actors to don the Michael Myers mask in John Carpenter’s 1978 film Halloween, has passed away. He was 85.
Winburn was one of a few different actors to portray Myers in the original Halloween. His contributions to the film included embodying the Shape in the iconic scene in which he is shot repeatedly by Donald Pleasence’s Samuel Loomis, causing him to fall from a balcony.
Winburn would work with Carpenter again on 1980’s The Fog and 1981’s Escape from New York. He also did stunt work for horror films like The Sentinel, Graduation Day, Mortuary, Once Bitten, and Popcorn.
In addition to his illustrious career in stunts, Winburn directed three feature films. These included the horror film Evil Altar, released in 1988.
