Filmmaking team Radio Silence have added serious momentum to their entry in Universal’s newest line of reboots, with cast announcements that read as a who’s who of modern horror. Furthermore, some details have emerged about a previous draft of the script that give us our first glimpse of what may be coming our way.
Last month it was announced that Scream star Melissa Barrera would headline the project, marking her third collaboration with the team. Now we know Barerra will be joined by The Guest’s Dan Stevens, Locke and Key star Kevin Durand, Freaky star Kathryn Newton and Euphoria’s Angus Cloud. Quite the cast to get excited about!
Furthermore, details regarding the plot have been reported as per a previous draft of the script, meaning we now know the project finds its basis in 1936’s Dracula’s Daughter. The script is described as:
“In the vein of Universal’s recent films like The Invisible Man and Renfield, the Radio Silence thriller will provide a unique take on legendary monster lore, representing a fresh, new direction for how to celebrate these classic characters. The project was at one point titled Dracula’s Daughter. That project centred on a group of kidnappers who abduct a band of young people, one of whom ends up being the titular character. Woe then betides the kidnappers. Alisha Weir is playing the kidnappee who proves to be more than she appears, with Barrera playing one of the kidnappers.”
Although that description sounds tantalising, we must note that Scream and Scream VI scribe Guy Busick is currently revising the original script by Stephen Shields. So, it is unknown how much of this original concept will make it into the final film.
Regardless of the mystery, it seems Radio Silence are creating quite the pool of talent for this latest reinvention. The project is slated to shoot June through August this year, for an April 19th 2024 release.
Undoubtedly more will emerge from this exciting project, so we will be sure to keep you informed.
