Back in July, we reported that The Evil Dead’s Sam Raimi was set to return to genre directing with Send Help for 20th Century Studios.
Now, it appears the project has taken a significant step forward, with actress Rachel McAdams reportedly in “early negotiations” to star.
McAdams, best known for her roles in 2004’s Mean Girls and 2007’s The Notebook, has previously worked with Raimi on 2019’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Genre fans still laud McAdams’ “final girl” smarts from Wes Craven’s 2005 hit Red Eye. If negotiations are successful, Send Help will be McAdams first genre project in two decades.
It has been reported by reliable sources that Send Help will be a tense two-hander movie.
Described as 2001’s Castaway meets 1990’s Misery, the film is penned by Freddy Vs. Jason scribes Mark Swift and Damian Shannon.
Raimi’s last genre project in the director’s chair was 2009’s fondly remembered Drag Me to Hell. However, in the intervening years, the filmmaker has been a prolific producer of genre projects, lending his prowess to projects such as The Possession, Don’t Breathe, 30 Days of Night, and 2023’s hit sequel Evil Dead Rise.
We’re very happy to see Sam back at the helm in horror, and we hope Send Help is a success for him.
